Frequently Asked Questions
What sets cutlass apart?
“Details matter” is often repeated by many professionals in their respective fields.
While the statement is true, it is only one component to Cutlass Velo’s approach.
We take pride in engaging with you one-on-one to listen to your needs, your questions, and your goals. Our years of experience, training, and development are why so many cyclists trust the Cutlass method. Tommy Barse, owner of Cutlass Velo, is who will be greeting you, performing all work done to your bike, and confidently guiding you through consultations and repairs. You’ll always know who to expect when walking in to drop off or pick up your bike.
We want you to spend time enjoying your bike and your life instead of worrying about doing maintenance and repair after work or before an important event.
Does cutlass velo offer tune ups?
It’s our opinion that the phrase tune up is too vague. Instead we offer two service options for new clients.
Our Assess and Adjust service was developed to meet your immediate service needs. During this assessment we may determine that a full mechanical evaluation would be beneficial after discussion of original assessment.
If you’re seeking a more refined and comprehensive approach, we recommend our Mechanical Evaluation. We take a deeper dive to gain better insight to your equipment. We will develop our service recommendations and discuss our strategy for proactive care for your bicycle.
After becoming a client to Cutlass Velo, we offer a la carte service/repairs as well as our recommended mid-season (or semi-annual) service that is tailored to what your bike needs after its first reset and/or annual service.
What is the assess and adjust service?
This is a 1 hour introduction to our process.
During the assessment we will perform:
-Brief test ride
-Quick cleaning of frame and fork
-Fork steerer inspection
-Seatpost inspection
-Chain wear measurement
-Drivetrain inspection
-Brake caliper + rotor inspection
-Bearing condition inspection
-Wheel/tire inspection
-Derailleur hanger alignment check
-Adjust/align brake calipers
-Adjust derailleurs
-Torque fasteners
-Test ride to check service performed
During the assessment we may discover items that may determine that we have further discussion on upgrading to our more comprehensive Mechanical Evaluation.
What is the mechanical Evaluation?
The mechanical evaluation is our method to gain deeper knowledge and understanding of your bike. It’s the opportunity to learn about your story- the joy that cycling brings you.
We take a unique approach to beginning service to your bicycle. Examining every detail of your bicycle’s components gives us insight into wear patterns, maintenance habits, and areas that may require more thorough attention.
After the evaluation, we will discuss with you the benefits of a total reset to bring your bike up to Cutlass Velo’s standard or what services we recommend for immediate improvement with plans for future service down the line.
We are driven to promote proactive care for your equipment.
Do you work on e-bikes?
While we believe a quality e-bike can be a great addition to peoples’ lives, Cutlass Velo does not currently offer services for e-bikes.
