Frequently Asked Questions

What sets cutlass apart?

I take pride in engaging with you one-on-one to listen to your needs, your questions, and your goals. My years of experience, continuous training, and ongoing refinement are why so many cyclists trust the Cutlass method. Tommy Barse, owner of Cutlass Velo, is who will be greeting you, performing all work done to your bike, and confidently guiding you through consultations and repairs. You’ll always know who to expect when walking in to drop off or pick up your bike.

I want you to spend time enjoying your bike and your life instead of worrying about doing maintenance and repair after work or before an important event.

Does cutlass velo offer tune ups?

It’s my opinion that the phrase tune up is too vague. Instead, I offer two service options for new clients.

Option one: the assess and adjust service. This was developed to meet your immediate service needs. During this assessment it may be determined that a full mechanical evaluation would be beneficial after discussion of original assessment.

Option two: if you’re seeking a more refined and comprehensive approach, I recommend my Mechanical Evaluation. I’ll take a deeper dive to gain better insight into your equipment. I will develop some service recommendations and discuss a strategy for proactive care for your bicycle.

After becoming a client to Cutlass Velo, I offer a la carte service/repairs and tailored maintenance packages for year-round reliability of your bicycle.

What is the assess and adjust service?

This is a 1 hour introduction to our process.
During the assessment we will perform:
-Brief test ride
-Quick cleaning of frame and fork
-Fork steerer inspection
-Seatpost inspection
-Chain wear measurement
-Drivetrain inspection
-Brake caliper + rotor inspection
-Bearing condition inspection
-Wheel/tire inspection
-Derailleur hanger alignment check
-Adjust/align brake calipers (if needed)
-Adjust derailleurs (if needed)
-Torque fasteners
-Test ride to check service performed

During the assessment I may discover items that will determine that we have further discussion on moving up to the more comprehensive Mechanical Evaluation.

What is the mechanical Evaluation?

The mechanical evaluation is my method to gain deeper knowledge and understanding of your bike. It’s an opportunity to learn about your story- the joy that cycling brings you.

I take an unparalleled approach to beginning service to your bicycle. Examining every detail of your bicycle’s components gives me insight into wear patterns, maintenance habits, and areas that may require more thorough attention.

After the evaluation, you and I will discuss the benefits of a total reset to bring your bike up to Cutlass Velo’s standard or what services I recommend for immediate improvement with recommendations for future service down the line.

Cutlass Velo is driven to promote proactive care for your equipment.

Does Cutlass work on e-bikes?

While I believe a quality e-bike can be a great addition to peoples’ lives, Cutlass Velo does not currently offer services for e-bikes.
